Tutoring High School and College Students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
I began tutoring while I was in high school. I have always enjoyed helping others learn and understand. I regularly receive praise from the people with whom I work. I expect that you will find me as many people do: down to earth, accessible, knowledgeable, and very helpful.
I went to college to become a professor and to teach. I graduated from two of the top universities (University of Chicago and UCSD) and studied with and learned from some very bright people. I wanted to and did learn how mathematics is used in scientific explanations. I have always been interested in the history and philosophy of science, too. I am trained and experienced as a theoretician–a numerical analyst.
Unlike many professors, I am very familiar with learning theories and their application to education. I spent the latter part of my career helping faculty improve their teaching through the selective use of modern information and communication technologies in their classrooms and online.
These are the college courses which I have taught (each multiple times):
- General Chemistry
- Quantitative Chemistry
- Physical Chemistry
- Thermodynamics
- Chemical Kinetics
- Analytical Chemistry
- Laboratory Automation
These are most of the college and high school courses which I tutor:
- Algebra and Advanced Algebra (College, Honors, AP, and HS)
- Geometry, Trigonometry, and Analytical Geometry (College, Honors, AP, and HS)
- Calculus and Advanced Calculus (College, Honors, AP, and HS)
- Statistics (College, Honors, AP, and HS)
- Linear (Matrix) Algebra (College)
- Differential Equations (College)
- Chemistry and Quantitative Analysis (College, Honors, AP, and HS)
- Earth Science (College, Honors, AP, and HS)
- Physics (College, Honors, AP, and HS)
- Analytical Mechanics (College)
- Physical Chemistry (College)
- Thermodynamics (College)
I usually work with students in one of the local libraries (Batavia, Geneva, Saint Charles, West Chicago, and others) in 60 minute sessions between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and between 12:00pm and 5:00pm Sunday.
If you would like to meet with me for an introductory session, please contact me: It’s free!
We can schedule sessions as needed and sessions at a regular time each week.
My current rate is $60 per session. I take (cash, check, or card–if you let me know ahead of time) payment during each session. (I also take $20 before your next scheduled session if you fail to notify me before 2:00 pm that you cannot meet for a scheduled session later that afternoon, and I’ll give you a $20 discount on your next session if I miss a session without notification.)
